Extended preservation efficacy tests (PET) with Pluralibacter gergoviae
The testing of the microbiological stability of cosmetics is carried out by the preservation efficacy test (KBT). This test is usually carried out in accordance with the DIN EN ISO 11930 standard, also as part of the cosmetics safety report.
Five microorganisms are provided as standard (Pseudmonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and Aspergillus brasiliensis). It is advisable to supplement this spectrum with other microorganisms that play or have played a role in the context of production and possible contamination of the products. The germ Pluralibacter gergoviae has recently been in the focus of attention, also due to a new publication by the BfR (see link below). This gram-negative germ sometimes causes massive problems in production or industrial hygiene.
It is recommended to include this microorganism or others such as Burkholderica cepacia in the test spectrum (ideally as an isolate from a contaminated product).
The BAV Institute advises you on all questions concerning PET and microbiological stability. Contact us, we look forward to hearing from you!
