Food recall: Listeria monocytogenes in edible products
Again and again food is recalled due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Most recently, these were detected in sausage, cheese made from pasteurised milk and various herring fillet products. The recalls were published on the website lebensmittelwarnung.de of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) or RASFF - food and feed safety alerts.
Especially raw animal and plant foods such as meat, fish, milk and vegetables but also processed foods can be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. In some groups of people, the so-called listeriosis can also lead to death.
Further information on Listeria monocytogenes can also be found on the websites of the efsa and the LGL Bavaria.
