Analytics of preservatives at the BAV Institute

Analytics of preservatives at the BAV Institute

The addition of preservatives in cosmetics serves to protect the product by preventing the growth of microorganisms. The preservatives are regulated in a so-called positive list in the Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.

Only the preservatives mentioned in the regulation may be added for the purpose of preventing microbial growth. Other substances such as essential oils, natural extracts, etc., can also contribute to product protection.

As part of our screening for preservatives, we test both finished cosmetic products and raw materials for, among other things:

-       Parabens

-       Thiazolinones

-       Benzoic acid, sorbic acid

-       Phenoxyethanol

-       Other compounds such as dehydroacetic acid, anisic acid, etc.

Preservative analysis plays a significant role both in the context of marketability tests and in clarifying a possible entry through pre-preserved raw materials.

BAV Institute conducts these investigations quickly and reliably for you in cooperation with the international Tentamus Laboratory Group
