Laws, Principles and Guidelines: What Requirements Must Be Observed for the Labeling of Food?

 

An important part of food labeling is the designation of the food. When choosing this designation, many regulations must be considered. First of all, of course, the European and national legal regulations must be taken into account.

If these are not available, the guidelines of the German Food Code can be used. These guidelines present typical compositions for certain designations. The 23 guidelines published so far by the German Food Code Commission are regularly updated and can be accessed online.

 

Additionally, guidelines from manufacturer organizations are used. Although these are not legally binding, they reflect the common understanding of the food industry. Various guidelines have been published by the German Food Association.
