New: Testing of face masks for Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2
People infected with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 can transmit the virus through droplets when exhaling, speaking, coughing, or sneezing. Wearing mouth and nose protection masks or other respirators is intended to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
Studies have shown that viruses are detectable in the masks of infected individuals. To prevent further spread of COVID-19, BAV INSTITUT now offers testing of worn or reprocessed face masks for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in addition to other surface examinations. The corresponding sampling kit can now be ordered from BAV INSTITUT, a laboratory of the Tentamus laboratory group.
The sampling can be easily carried out independently using the sampling kit and the included instructions. After sampling surfaces and/or face masks, the swab samples can be sent to the laboratory in a special transport medium without cooling. You will receive the results no later than two working days after the samples are received.
Testing used masks or other surfaces for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 can provide the following information:
- If a mask test yields positive results, it indicates that the mask wearer is infected with the virus or the virus was present in their environment.
- If the mask is checked after reprocessing or washing and a positive result is obtained, it shows that the reprocessing or washing of the mask does not work adequately. The goal of reprocessing or washing is not achieved, and the process urgently needs to be improved, as the reuse of contaminated face masks poses a significant health risk.
- If surface results are positive, the spread of the virus as well as potential infected individuals and/or infection pathways can be identified. Immediate action can be taken to implement preventive & hygiene measures. This allows companies and institutions to prevent the further spread of the virus at an early stage. The risk of business closures and further infections among employees can thus be significantly reduced.
