Eco-Test: Sunscreen for Babies and Children in Test

The magazine Öko-Test published an article in June on the investigation of 25 sunscreen products for babies and children for plasticizers.

The main media focus earlier this year was on mono-n-hexyl phthalate (MnHexP), which was detectable in children's urine and is a degradation product of the phthalate di-n-hexyl phthalate (DnHexP) banned under Annex II of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009.

According to Öko-Test, DnHexP was detectable in some products, and these products also contained the UV filter diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (DHHB), which is discussed as a possible source of DnHexP. However, there were also products that contained DHHB but in which no DnHexP was detectable.

Nevertheless, Öko-Test also believes that the detected concentrations are not of concern and, above all, are no reason to forgo comprehensive sun protection for babies and children.

Would you like to test your sunscreen for phthalates/plasticizers? Our analytical spectrum includes a total of 32 substances, which includes both DnHexP and MnHexP. We look forward to your inquiry.
