Risks of Pluralibacter gergoviae in cosmetics

The microorganism Pluralibacter gergoviae is playing an increasingly important role as a potential microbial contamination in the cosmetic industry. This is also evidenced by the increasing reports in the European Union's rapid alert system known as Safety Gate (formerly RAPEX).

Recently, an older statement on this germ was updated by the BfR and highlighted the significance of the germ. The statement calls for the absence of Pluralibacter gergoviae in all cosmetic products.

A recent recommendation from the Microbiology and Operational Hygiene Working Group of the DGK also addresses this and recommends investigating this microorganism in all tests (ISO 17516) and including it in the Preservative Efficacy Test (KBT), among others.

The BAV Institute is at your disposal for all microbiological issues with advice and assistance and also supports you in investigating the causes of positive findings.
