Stiftung Warentest takes a closer look at lip gloss

A total of 16 lip gloss products were examined in more detail in the current April issue of Stiftung Warentest magazine. Almost half of the products (7 products) are certified natural cosmetics.
The result: all natural cosmetic products score very well with the grade. The other products achieve a maximum of one sufficient, sometimes only inadequate to insufficient.
What was the most common reason for this devaluation ? Usually paraffins and paraffin-like substances contained in the formulations of the respective products.
In addition, the following substances were also criticised:

• MOAH (aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons)
• parabens
• UV filter
• PEG and PEG derivatives
• dyestuffs

In contrast to previous tests, this time no significant contents of heavy metal residues were found to be defective.
