Berliners in Test – Pesticides and Mineral Oil Residues Detected

The carnival season is associated with the consumption of Berliner (also known as Krapfen or Pfannkuchen). Just in time for the peak season, Öko-Test took a closer look at eleven different Berliners. In addition to the ingredients, possible contaminants such as pesticides, mineral oil residues (MOSH/MOAH), and 3-MCPD fatty acid esters were the focus of the investigation. None of the tested products scored better than "satisfactory".

The main reason for the average test results is the detected pesticides in the Berliners. Although these were sometimes found only in very small traces, their detection alone led to point deductions.

Traces of mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH/MOAH) were also detected in some products.

Öko-Test also found discrepancies in the verification of nutritional information. In three of the tested products, the actual fat content differed from the information on the packaging. Additionally, the use of (natural) flavors was criticized.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct testing for mineral oil residues (MOSH/MOAH), pesticides, and nutrient analysis. We provide you with fast and reliable results.

For questions, our customer advisors are very happy to assist you.
