BfR warns against too spicy foods – High capsaicin levels in food can negatively affect health
Capsaicin is naturally present in chilies and hot peppers and is responsible for their spiciness.
Since there are numerous products on the market with very high capsaicin content, the BfR issued a statement on this. According to them, the amounts of hot-spiced foods usually consumed, such as Asian or African cuisine dishes, do not lead to acute health damage. However, allergic reactions are known. For this reason, the BfR recommends that foods with a capsaicin content of over 100 mg/kg should be provided with a safety notice and child-resistant closures.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for capsaicin. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
For questions, our customer advisors are very happy to be of assistance.
