BfR: "Zoonoses and Food Safety" – Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria and Co.

The BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) is hosting a symposium in early November this year with experts from the official food economy and industry on the topic of "Zoonoses and Food Safety".

Some microorganisms in food can lead to outbreaks of illness. Examples include Campylobacter in raw milk, Salmonella in eggs or pork, or Listeria in ready-to-eat foods. Infections caused by viruses are also significantly increasing, such as Hepatitis E infections. The latter were particularly caused by the consumption of inadequately heated liver and raw sausages, i.e., by consuming meat, offal, and products made from infected pigs or wild boars.

The symposium addresses zoonotic pathogens, particularly their occurrence and transmission along the food chain, other aspects of food safety, as well as current developments.

More information on Salmonella, Campylobacter and Listeria monocytogenes can also be found in our BAV profiles on our homepage.
