BVL: Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC/VTEC) and Salmonella in raw ground meat

The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety published the press release “Potentially pathogenic germs in raw minced pork” on 14th November 2024.

In the Zoonosis Monitoring 2023, it was found that in 11 out of 318 samples of "seasoned minced pork for raw consumption" (Mett, Hackepeter), Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC/VTEC), and in one sample, Salmonella were detected.

Seasoned minced pork for raw consumption (Mett, Hackepeter) is consumed immediately, meaning that any potentially present germs are not killed beforehand by a heating process.

Vulnerable groups such as the elderly and immunocompromised individuals, young children, or pregnant women should not eat raw minced meat.
