Caution when testing microbiology cosmetics with rapid methods

In the examination of the microbiological status/batch release of cosmetics, in addition to classic cultural methods (ISO 17516), rapid methods are also sometimes used. Caution should be exercised when using the same, and the following points in particular must be observed:

• Validation and suitability testing
• Sensitivity and specificity of the method used
• Adequate training of personnel
• Maintenance of equipment and devices

Sometimes individual microorganisms are not or only insufficiently detected. We have comprehensively addressed this topic in a recent newsletter.
