Designation of food - What requirements must be observed?

An important component of the labeling of food products is the name of the food. When choosing this designation, many regulations must be observed. First of all, of course, the European and national legal regulations must be observed.

If these are not available, the guidelines of the German Food Book can be consulted. These guidelines depict common compositions for certain designations. The guidelines published so far by the German Food Book Commission are regularly updated and can be accessed online.

Additionally, guidelines from manufacturer organizations are considered. While these are not legally binding, they reflect the common perception of the food industry. Various guidelines have been published by the Food Federation Germany.
