DetergentsCleanersAndCleaningAgents: UFICodeCanSaveLives
UFI stands for Unique Formula Identifier, a 16-character code made up of numbers and letters, which must be applied to all new household and commercial products that are potentially hazardous to health in the European Economic Area (EEA) since 2021.
From January 2025, the UFI is also mandatory for products within the EEA that were distributed before 2021. The code must be applied to the label or inner packaging and must begin with the letter sequence "UFI".
The UFI serves preventive health protection and helps, for example, to react quickly and in a targeted manner in the event of accidents.
Exceptions to labeling on the label or packaging are only products used purely industrially. Here, labeling the UFI in the safety data sheet is sufficient.
Through the UFI generator of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), companies can generate the code themselves and report it together with the product formulation to the BfR.
