EU announcement on HACCP and PRP - In BAV Newsletter 03/2017
HACCP is mandatory for every food business operator. However, many small businesses are overwhelmed by the often-complicated implementation requirements. The EU Commission has now published a notification that not only explains the connection between prerequisite programs (PRPs) and HACCP, but also explains facilitations for certain companies [Commission Notice on the implementation of food safety management systems taking into account PRPs and procedures based on the HACCP principles, including simplification and flexibility in implementation in certain food businesses (2016/C 278/01)].
Subsequently, smaller businesses are allowed to conduct semi-quantitative risk assessments and rely more heavily on the effectiveness of their prerequisite programs. Safety can also be ensured by inspections without definable limit values, for example, through visual inspections carried out by experienced personnel. (Source: http://bit.ly/2r8m1Ck)
