Fipronil in eggs from the Netherlands

Fipronil is a broad-spectrum insecticide. It is used against ants, fleas, lice, ticks, cockroaches, and mites, among others. Its application on food-producing animals (livestock) is not permitted.

In early June, Fipronil was detected in eggs from an organic laying hen farm in the Netherlands. High levels of Fipronil were found in the soil of this farm's outdoor area.

Additionally, eggs contaminated with Fipronil from a conventional Dutch farm have also reached North Rhine-Westphalia. Here, too, high levels of Fipronil in the soil of the outdoor area are suspected. The affected goods have been removed from the market.

The levels of Fipronil found in the eggs are not a health hazard, but they exceed the maximum residue level of 0.005 mg/kg for Fipronil in eggs.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for Fipronil. We provide you with fast and reliable results.

Our customer advisors are gladly available for any questions.
