Grilled sausages in the Eco-Test July 2022: Criticism of contamination with mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH), phosphates, too much salt and animal welfare
Fitting for the season, Öko-Test tested 19 grill sausages. Only six organic sausages were rated well – for most others, the living conditions of the processed animals are too poor or non-transparent. Additionally, there are phosphates, too much salt, and mineral oil residues.
Phosphates are supposed to act as stabilizers to improve the consistency of the sausage. Added phosphates can increase the phosphate level in the blood, which is associated with risks to kidney function. In organic foods, the addition of phosphates is prohibited.
Twelve out of the 19 products in the test are contaminated with saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH). The residues may originate from production machines but can also enter the sausages via the casings, spices, or herbs.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we conduct the tests regularly. We provide fast and reliable results.
