Germany's Largest Food Poisoning Outbreak to Date - 04/2012
According to the Robert Koch Institute, the recent gastrointestinal illnesses represent the largest wave of foodborne illness ever in Germany. At least 11,200 people are affected by the rampant vomiting diarrhea in East Germany. According to current findings, a batch of frozen strawberries could be the cause of the poisoning in children and adolescents. Experts assume that the illness was triggered by school and daycare meals. Noroviruses have now been detected in a large number of patients. However, according to the authorities, other pathogens or bacterial toxins cannot yet be completely ruled out as the cause.
