Laws, Principles, and Guidelines: What Requirements Must Be Followed for Food Labeling?

An important component of food labeling is the designation of the food. When choosing this designation, many regulations must be observed. First and foremost, the European and national legal regulations must be observed.

If these are not available, the guidelines of the German Food Code can be used. These guidelines depict common compositions for specific designations. The 23 guidelines published so far by the German Food Code Commission are regularly updated and can be accessed online.

 

In addition, guidelines from manufacturer organizations are used. Although these are not legally binding, they reflect the common market perception of the food industry. Various guidelines have been published by the Food Federation Germany.
