FIC - Commission Publishes Notice on Allergen Information

On July 13, 2017, the EU Commission published a notice that clarifies the labeling of allergens in several respects. Specifically, the Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 (FIC) on food information to consumers does not contain specific information in this regard for non-prepackaged food. These gaps are closed by the notice. The national implementing regulation on labeling requirements (FIC AV), which also came into effect on July 13, 2017, contains detailed information on this as well.

Further contents of the notice are a clarification of the list of allergens and information on the provision of allergen information for prepackaged foods. The notice provides guidance for companies and national authorities to implement the requirements of the FIC regarding the provision of allergen information.
