Microbiological quality of cosmetic products – ISO 17516
Cosmetic products must be microbiologically safe, which is a central requirement of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009.
As the state of the art, ISO 17516 specifies requirements for:
- Total number of aerobic mesophilic microorganisms (bacteria, yeasts & molds), quantitative determination
- Absence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, qualitative testing and absence in 1g product respectively
Testing must be carried out on each batch of non-low-risk products (generally all water-containing products).
In addition to this regular, batchwise testing, testing of microbiological stability (preservative efficacy test (PET), ISO 11930) is also required.
The BAV Institute quickly and reliably tests the microbiological quality of your products for you. With our online sample portal, you can receive all results live.
