Mineral oils in food

In recent years, mineral oil components in food have become an important issue, as these substances are undesirable due to their toxicity, yet they are regularly detected in a relatively large number of foods. They can, for example, enter food through the use of recycled waste paper in the production of cardboard, which contains newspaper. The mineral oil components of the newspaper printing inks cannot be removed in the recycling process. Other possible sources of mineral oil entry into foods include lubricants and release agents used for food production equipment as well as exhaust gases from harvesting machines. Mineral oil components can also migrate from plastic packaging.

This issue was confirmed in two recent tests by ÖKO-TEST magazine (issue 11/2017). More than half of the tested rapeseed oil products as well as several chicken nuggets contained saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH/POSH). Another rapeseed oil product also contained aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH).

In our laboratory group, we routinely offer these analyses. We guarantee quick and reliable results! Our customer service representatives are happy to assist you with any questions.
