New EU Regulation on Epidemiological-Molecular Analysis Data - Whole Genome Investigations of Foodborne Disease Outbreaks

On January 31, 2025, the European Commission issued Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/179 to facilitate the investigation of foodborne disease outbreaks caused by strains of Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni, and Campylobacter coli, and to identify the sources of these outbreaks at an early stage.

According to the German Association of Independent Testing Laboratories, member states and competent national authorities are required to collect isolates of strains of Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni, and Campylobacter coli found during official controls of food, animals, feed, and related environmental samples by food and feed business operators. The isolates are to be subjected to whole genome sequencing in laboratories accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct microbiological examinations and sequencing, among other things.

We provide fast and reliable results and are happy to advise you on any issues related to product safety.

If you have any questions, our customer advisors are at your disposal.
