New Professional Article Cosmetics – Microbiological Contamination of Soap Dispensers in Hotels – ISO 17516

New Specialist Article Cosmetics – Microbiological Contamination of Soap Dispensers in Hotels – ISO 17516

Soap dispensers in refill pump dispensers always pose the risk of microbiological contamination. Previous studies have identified a contamination rate of liquid soaps in public restrooms of approximately 25%.

In a recent specialist publication from Germany (Title: A loophole in soap dispensers mediates contamination with Gram-negative bacteria), a total of 104 liquid soaps from hotel rooms (both refill and disposable) were examined for their microbiological quality. The compliance with microbiological acceptance criteria according to ISO 17516 was reviewed.

The result: 73% of refill systems and 11% of disposable systems showed contamination. Among the detected microorganisms were:

-          Pluralibacter gergoviae

-          Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas putida

-          Serratia marcescens

-          Klebsiella oxytoca

This high contamination rate highlights the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions. The BAV Institute supports you in all matters concerning hygiene & microbiology.
