New articles on the antibacterial effectiveness and preservative challenge tests of cosmetic products in the SOFW Journal
Two new technical articles on the topics of antibacterial efficacy of cosmetic products and preservative efficacy testing are published in the current May 2018 issue of the journal SOFW (Soaps, Oils, Fats, Waxes: Journal for the Detergent, Soap, Oil, and Fat Industry).
The article "Verifiability of Claims Regarding Antibacterial/Antimicrobial Efficacy of Cosmetic Products" provides valuable guidance on the classification and evaluation of products that claim a corresponding antimicrobial efficacy. It also presents suitable verification methods and outlines the distinction between biocidal products. Mrs. Joelle Nussbaum and Dr. Bernhard Fellenberg from BAV Institute were significantly involved as co-authors in the publication of this article.
The basis is a publication by the Microbiology and Operational Hygiene Specialist Group of the DGK (German Society for Cosmetics). This can be found at: https://www.sofw.com/content/news/Publikation%20Juni_2017.pdf
Furthermore, this SOFW issue contains a very interesting article on the topic "Preservative Load Test for Cosmetic Products – Achieving an Appropriate Efficacy Statement," authored by Dr. Ulrich Eigener.
