PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are currently widely used in many products due to their properties, but they are a major environmental problem due to their persistence. A ban is therefore being pursued at the European level.
At the end of November, a new document was published by the ECHA and the five submitting countries (Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden) with the current status. Among other things, it states:
- Sector-based approach, selective consideration of use depending on the application area
- Certain exceptions, e.g. for packaging and excipients for pharmaceuticals
- Possibly restrictions instead of a ban
The group of PFAS currently includes more than 10,000 compounds, making regulation very complex.
The BAV Institute, as part of the Tentamus laboratory group, tests for PFAS compounds quickly and reliably for you. Contact us; we look forward to your message.
