Öko-Test examines toast bread: Contamination with mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH), pesticides, and acrylamide

Öko-Test examines toast bread: Contamination with mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH), pesticides, and acrylamide

Öko-Test recently tested 20 toast breads for contaminants. In the process, contamination with mineral oil components was found in eight products. In two organic toast breads, the contamination with mineral oil is even so high that they fail the Öko-Test.

MOSH (mineral oil components) accumulate in human organs. Therefore, their content in food should be as low as possible. The problematic group of substances MOAH (mineral oil hydrocarbons) can also include carcinogenic substances.

Öko-Test names technical white oils used as lubricating grease on machines in production as a possible source of mineral oil.

The following other deficiencies were also criticized: pesticide residues, high acrylamide levels, and excessive salt content.
