Öko-Test November 2021: Ground coffee contaminated with acrylamide, furan, and methylfurans
Öko-Test examined 20 ground coffees for harmful substances. Only one coffee received a "Good" rating - nine coffees are advised against. They fail with "Poor" or even "Insufficient." This is mainly due to the presence of harmful substances such as acrylamide, furan, and methylfurans, but also due to a lack of responsibility for human rights and environmental protection in the production countries.
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), acrylamide increases the risk of cancer, furan and methylfurans can damage the liver in the long term. These harmful substances can form when roasting coffee beans.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct these examinations. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
