Öko-Test examines cosmetic private labels more closely

In the current September 2019 issue, the magazine Öko-Test takes a closer look at various cosmetic products from renowned retail chains and examines whether these products meet the same criteria as traditional brand products.

The good news: 32 out of 54 products received the rating very good, 21 were rated good, and one product received the rating satisfactory. The products tested included creams, shampoos, soaps, and deodorants.

The following led to a downgraded rating:

• PEG/PEG derivatives
• Critical plastic compounds
• Certain preservatives
• Certain allergenic fragrances
• Silicones
• Insufficient evidence of a claim (especially for deodorants)

Check the quality of your products and comply with the specifications of the EU Cosmetic Regulation EC 1223/2009.
