Opening ceremony of the new laboratory building at BAV Institute in Offenburg

Offenburg – Last Saturday marked the grand opening of the expanded laboratory building at the BAV Institute in Offenburg. Over 300 invited guests attended to gain insight into the modernized laboratory expansion of the renowned microbiological testing institute.

The BAV Institute has been a well-established entity in the region for years and is one of the largest and most advanced contract laboratories for microbiological testing of food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals in Europe. Located in the Waltersweier industrial area, the institute was founded in 1997 by Paul Andrei, who still serves as managing director alongside Julia Paustian and Reiner Schmieder. The primary focus of the management's considerations and decisions are the more than 3,000 clients from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and 180 employees. "Through our work, we make an important contribution to the success of our clients, product safety, and consumer protection," said Paul Andrei. The success and steady growth of the BAV Institute are primarily based on fast and reliable services.

This focus has enabled the stable development of the BAV Institute over the past 25 years, and even in challenging times such as the Corona pandemic or the current conflict in Ukraine, the management remained optimistic and courageous about future projects. The final decision for a new building was made at the end of 2020, and work has been completed since June of this year.

The BAV Institute has now expanded its premises with an additional building complex comprising 3 floors and 3,000 sqm. This has doubled the building area in total and even tripled the laboratory space. The institute invested 6 million euros for this. Due to the increasing demand for high-quality and reliable quality controls, the existing laboratory building was bursting at the seams. The expansion was therefore urgently needed to meet the growing requirements, necessitating further investments in a laboratory building in Offenburg Waltersweier.

The opening ceremony on June 8, 2024, began with tours through the new laboratory rooms. Relatives and friends of the employees were given a tour of the laboratory rooms on the "Open Laboratory Day." The ground floor houses the nutrient media production, the first floor the laboratories for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and medicines. Ample space, light-filled rooms, and modern equipped workstations characterize the new premises. But above all, it is the latest technological developments, which are now being used in the laboratories of the BAV Institute, developed and produced by the in-house IT team. Only in this way are the laboratory staff given even better and optimal working conditions, which in turn make precise and fast results possible.

"It is an honor for us to enable the opening ceremony and to continue to witness the progress of the BAV Institute," said Julia Paustian, the managing director of the BAV Institute, who has been involved for over 20 years and helped build the testing laboratory. "The expansion of the premises allows us to increase our capacities and optimize our work processes. This allows us to continue being the best partner for our clients and offer even faster tests."

Despite occasional rain, the party continued with good spirits, music, delicious food, and cool drinks deep into the night.
