PAOforCosmetics–NewGuidelinebyGÖCH
A "PAO" (Period after Opening) is required to be labeled on cosmetics according to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 for those with a minimum shelf life of more than 30 months. This PAO indicates the period during which the product can be safely used after it is first opened.
Such a PAO must be determined based on appropriate stability tests as well as other data (experiences from similar formulations, packaging, etc.). A new guideline from the Austrian Chemical Society (GÖCH) for the practical determination of the PAO has recently been published.
This guideline provides practical tips on determining shelf life (see further information).
