Pesticide residues in food

From the "National Report on Pesticide Residues in Food 2016" published by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), it emerges that foods produced in Germany rarely contain excessively high residues of pesticides.

Frequently consumed foods such as apples, carrots, potatoes, and seasonal products like strawberries or asparagus have scarcely or never exceeded the maximum residue levels for years. Beans and fresh herbs, on the other hand, regularly appear on the list of crops with the most exceedances. The rate for beans (with pods) has been significantly reduced, while for fresh herbs the level has remained high. The negative leaders in exceedances in 2016 are wild mushrooms and currants.

In 54 out of 135 food groups, with at least ten samples, no exceedances of the maximum residue levels could be detected in any of the samples tested. The active substances with the most frequent exceedances are copper, fosetyl, mercury, and acetamiprid.
