Pesticides in Table Grapes

The Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Office Stuttgart (CVUA) points out pesticide residues in table grapes. A recent study examining 64 table grapes from various countries of origin shows that conventionally grown table grapes often contain residues of multiple pesticides. Particularly noticeable were samples from third countries, where the average pesticide content was significantly higher at 1.9 mg/kg than for grapes from the EU (0.57 mg/kg).

The most frequently detected active substance is phosphonic acid. Phosphonic acid residues can be a result of the application of fungicides such as fosetyl or potassium and disodium phosphonate.
