Pluralibacter gergoviae in cosmetic products
Pluralibacter gergoviae (formerly Enterobacter gergoviae) repeatedly causes contamination in cosmetics, leading to recalls, most recently in April 2017 on the German market. It is also increasingly noticeable in the field of pharmaceutical production, causing damage. A recent publication in Pharm. Ind. 79, No. 10 by Dr. Gero Beckmann addresses the topic. "Like a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes - Pluralibacter (Enterobacter) gergoviae - a Little Known Bacterium on the Rise".

In the case of positive microbiological findings, it is very important to perform an identification. If it is Pluralibacter gergoviae, action must be taken on several levels:
- Extensive follow-up examinations before releasing the affected batch
- Cleaning and disinfection measures in production
- Confirmation of the effectiveness of preservation by including Pluralibacter gergoviae as an additional microorganism in the preservative challenge test (KBT or Preservative efficacy test or Challenge Test)
In our laboratory, we routinely perform this examination. We provide you with fast and reliable results. If you have any questions, our customer service representatives are happy to assist you.
