ProductRecallCreamDueToMicrobialContamination

Cosmetic products must be safe for health and thus also microbiologically harmless, as required by the Cosmetics Regulation EC No. 1223/2009.

Repeatedly, there are recalls and withdrawals due to microbial contamination and non-compliance with the requirements of ISO 17516. Common microorganisms include Pseudomonas species, as well as Pluralibacter gergoviae or Burkholderia cepacia.

Recently, a product was recalled from the market as it exceeded microbiological limit values and was deemed unsafe. Generally, the products being recalled are water-containing formulations. Water is often the main component in cosmetics, and water microorganisms can multiply well within it.

Have your cosmetics and raw materials tested for microbiological safety on a regular basis. The earlier a potential contamination is detected, the better and faster one can respond.
