Publication 12th Version SCCS Notes of Guidance – SCCS/1647/22

The SCCS Notes of Guidance for Testing of Cosmetic Ingredients and Their Safety Evaluation 12th Revision contain relevant information on the testing and safety evaluation of cosmetic products in Europe.

The focus of the revision of the 11th version includes the following points (the list is not exhaustive):

-          The importance of a systematic literature review

-          Update on animal-free alternative methods: NAM (New Approach Methodology), changes for acute inhalation, skin irritation tests, eye irritation tests with DAL (Defined Approach for Eye Irritation, Liquid) and others  

-          Exposure of children to different cosmetic product categories depending on age

-          Sun protection through sunscreens: basic principles of exposure data
