Questions and Answers on Tattoo Inks – a Current Document by the BfR
About 12% of the German population are tattooed – and the trend is increasing. A current document from the BfR in Berlin answers questions about the health safety of the products and many other questions:
- What are tattoos and permanent make-ups?
- Where can I find a list of safe colors?
- Can tattoo inks contain carcinogenic substances?
- Can nickel be present?
- etc.
Legally, the products are subject to the regulations of the LFGB and the German Tattoo Ordinance. Certain substances such as primary aromatic amines and specific pigments must not be contained.
Also, no microbiological pathogens such as Pseudomonas sp., enterobacteria, etc. must be detectable.
Feel free to contact us regarding the analysis of tattoo inks and tattoo colors. The BAV Institute, as part of the international Tentamus Laboratory Group, is at your disposal for all analytical questions with advice and support.
