As part of the new General Product Safety Regulation Regulation (EU) 2023/988 - General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), the "Safety Gate" system is introduced as a replacement for the previous RAPEX system (Rapid Exchange of Information System).
Safety Gate is an EU rapid alert system for consumer protection that enables the exchange of information on dangerous products. It allows for quick information exchange and supports measures such as recall or withdrawal actions. During inspections, market surveillance authorities in Europe repeatedly find products that cause injuries or contain toxic substances, thereby posing potential hazards.
With the introduction of Safety Gate, the EU aims to increase awareness of the central platform for information on measures to protect against dangerous non-food products and thus reach a larger number of consumers.
