Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) - Publication of the 2020 Annual Report with a focus on Ethylene Oxide
The European Commission has published the 2020 annual report on the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The annual report includes almost 15,000 alert and follow-up notifications. This represents a 22% increase in alerts compared to 2019. Particularly imported foods were affected by alerts concerning unauthorized pesticides, with the detection of ethylene oxide in sesame seeds from India playing a significant role.
Currently, there are still multiple daily reports of ethylene oxide findings in foods. Almost all product groups are now affected by alerts regarding ethylene oxide: dairy products, meat and fish products, baked goods, pasta, ready meals, beverages, ice cream, dietary supplements, additives (especially thickeners), and many spices.
The annual report of the European Commission and the latest alerts can be accessed HERE.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct testing for ethylene oxide.
