Recalls of almonds and nut mixes due to increased hydrocyanic acid content

Due to increased levels of hydrogen cyanide (also known as cyanide), there have been market withdrawals and public recalls of almonds and nut mixes in recent days.

It cannot be ruled out that these foods contain an increased proportion of bitter almonds. Bitter almonds are not suitable for raw consumption and taste significantly more bitter compared to sweet almonds. Bitter almonds contain amygdalin, a cyanogenic glycoside, which releases highly toxic hydrogen cyanide during the digestion process. This can lead to headaches, gastrointestinal issues, and other symptoms of poisoning such as cyanide poisoning.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for hydrogen cyanide. We provide you with fast and reliable results.

Our customer advisors are very happy to assist you with any questions.
