Recalls of cosmetics by the European Rapid Alert System Safety Gate
Just last week, several cosmetic products were recalled due to potential health risks for consumers through the European rapid alert system called Safety Gate (formerly RAPEX).
All products did not meet the stringent requirements of the EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. The reasons for the recalls were:
- Increased aerobic mesophilic total germ count and detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ISO 17516 not fulfilled)
- High amounts of p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), which can cause skin irritation
- Increased amounts of Hydroquinone
Have your cosmetic products as well as the corresponding raw materials regularly checked. BAV advises you on the selection of test parameters and supports you in all regulatory questions to comply with VO (EG) 1223/2009.
