Residues of heavy metals in cosmetics and cosmetic raw materials
Residues of heavy metals in cosmetic products may only be present in technically unavoidable, health-safe amounts according to Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. For the metals arsenic, antimony, lead, cadmium, and mercury, guideline values are provided by a monitoring of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL).
Other metals need to be tested depending on the product and possible contents must be considered within the safety report (e.g., chromium and nickel).
For cosmetic raw materials, maximum levels of heavy metals must be determined depending on the type of raw material and must be regularly tested.
You can read the link to maximum levels of heavy metals from BVL here:
The BAV Institute advises you on the selection of test parameters for your product and determines meaningful testing scopes.
