Salmonella enterica detected in imported, dried mushrooms from Vietnam
On 25.10.22, an alert was posted in the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) regarding imported, dried mushrooms originating from Vietnam.
The report comes from Finland, where the mushrooms were examined after their import.
Salmonella plays a significant role worldwide as a cause of gastrointestinal diseases. Frequent carriers of Salmonella are mainly poultry and pigs, but also reptiles.
These bacteria are mostly transmitted through raw animal foods, particularly poultry, eggs, and pork. However, spices such as paprika and pepper, as well as herbs, can also be contaminated with Salmonella. In most other foods, Salmonella is rarely found. However, the present case shows that other categories of food can also be contaminated with Salmonella.
