Preservative efficacy tests (PETs) with microorganisms from the production environment

To demonstrate the microbiological stability of cosmetics, preservation stress tests are usually conducted according to ISO 11930.

In accordance with the standard, five microorganisms (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Aspergillus brasiliensis) are used for this purpose.

These five germs are merely a selection of possible contaminants and can be supplemented by additional germs. An example of this is Pluralibacter gergoviae.

The BAV Institute is also capable of conducting the preservation stress test (KBT) of your products using microorganisms relevant to your production environment.

For this purpose, the respective microorganism is isolated from a sample, cultured, and then used in this form for the KBT. Thus, the product is tested with the germs that have relevance in your operation.

Please feel free to contact us. We regularly conduct this type of testing for many customers.
