The safety report – a must for every cosmetic product
According to Art. 10 of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, a safety assessment must be carried out for each cosmetic product before it is placed on the market, including the preparation of a safety report according to Annex I of the regulation.
Furthermore, according to Art. 10 (2), specific requirements are set for the qualifications of the person carrying out the assessment, whose proof is also part of the actual safety report.
The safety report represents a comprehensive toxicological assessment of both the raw materials used, including potential impurities, as well as the final cosmetic product. Furthermore, not only the cosmetic formulation but also the suitability of the packaging material is assessed. If there are any changes in the formulation or packaging during marketing, these must be reassessed by the safety assessor, which requires an update of the safety report.
The BAV combines comprehensive expertise and many years of experience in the assessment of cosmetic products in a multi-member team of safety assessors.
