What requirements must be observed for the labeling of food products?
An important part of food labeling is the designation of the food. Many regulations must be observed when choosing this designation. First and foremost, European and national legal regulations must be observed.
If such regulations are not available, the guidelines of the German Food Code can be used. These guidelines present common compositions for specific designations. The 23 guidelines published by the German Food Code Commission so far are regularly updated and can be accessed online.
Additionally, guidelines from manufacturer organizations can be used. Although these are not legally binding, they reflect the usual perception of the food industry. Various guidelines have been published by the German Food Federation.
