Who is obligated to conduct environmental monitoring for Listeria monocytogenes?
In the guideline on preventive measures against Listeria monocytogenes of the German Food Association, section 7.1 "Environmental monitoring of Listeria spp. and/or Listeria monocytogenes" can be found. It describes, among other things, who is obligated to conduct environmental monitoring of Listeria monocytogenes according to Art. 5 para. 2 of Regulation (EC) No. 2073/2005 and who is exempt:
- Obligated are food business operators who produce ready-to-eat foods that may pose a health risk due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
Exempt are: - Manufacturers of non-ready-to-eat foods
- Traders of exclusively not self-manufactured, packaged, ready-to-eat foods
- Operators who supply foods for direct consumption to end consumers, e.g., gastronomy, communal catering, direct marketers, and certain craft businesses.
- Food business operators who produce foods that do not pose a health risk regarding Listeria monocytogenes.
