Salmonella in Foods: From Rapid Methods to Strain Comparison

The BAV Institute aims to offer fast and reliable services. In addition to the classic testing method for salmonella, a modern and accredited rapid method using “real-time PCR” is available, which provides us with the result within 24 hours.

Furthermore, we offer the possibility to compare bacterial strains of salmonella. This allows conclusions to be drawn about their causes in the event of contamination or positive findings. Sources of contamination can be found and eliminated more quickly, as strains from end products can be compared with strains from raw materials or environmental investigations, for example. This comparison of strains is carried out using the MALDI-TOF method. These results are also available the same day after the strains are isolated, allowing rapid initiation of statements about potential sources of contamination and appropriate preventive measures.

This capability to compare strains of isolated microorganisms is also possible with other germs at the BAV INSTITUTE using implemented methods, such as Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus

Further information and literature on salmonella can also be found at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) or the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).
