Current food warnings: Mold toxin Ochratoxin A in pistachio kernels
Due to the detection of the mold toxin Ochratoxin A (OTA), an official recall of pistachio kernels has been initiated.
OTA is a mycotoxin produced by molds of the Aspergillus and Penicillium genera and is found in most food categories. It is regularly detected especially in grains, dried fruits, but also in coffee and wine. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) considers OTA to be a risk to public health for most consumer groups.
You can access our profile on molds on our homepage.
For several years, we have successfully offered the identification of bacteria and yeasts using MALDI-TOF. From now on, we can also extend this service to molds. In the MALDI-TOF method, a mass spectrum of the mold is compared against a database containing a wide range of spectra from various microorganisms. Our database has recently been expanded to include more than 1,000 new spectra of molds.
Our customer advisors are very happy to assist you with any questions.
